Pedestrian Succumbs to Injuries After Being Struck by Truck on Plank Road [FREDERICKSBURG, VA]

In a tragic incident early Saturday morning, a 26-year-old man, identified as Joe Anthony Palacios, succumbed to his injuries after being struck by a truck on Plank Road. The crash occurred around 6:20 a.m. as Palacios was walking eastbound along the travel lane of the 2800 block of Plank Road. Despite being quickly transported to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced dead at 10:43 a.m., according to the Fredericksburg Police Department (FPD).

The driver of the truck, who remained at the scene and fully cooperated with law enforcement, was not injured in the crash. Following a preliminary investigation, the FPD found no signs of impairment on the part of the driver. At this time, the cause of the accident remains under investigation by the FPD’s traffic reconstruction team in conjunction with the medical examiner’s office. While the investigation continues, the community is left mourning the loss of Palacios, who tragically lost his life in the accident.

When a pedestrian is involved in an accident and sustains fatal injuries, it can lead to significant emotional and financial hardship for their family and loved ones. In such situations, it is crucial to understand the types of compensation that may be available to the victim’s family to help ease their burden.

The family of a pedestrian who dies in an accident may be entitled to various types of compensation. These may include compensation for funeral expenses, medical bills related to the victim’s treatment before death, lost wages (if the victim had a source of income), and pain and suffering endured by the deceased before passing. In addition, families may also receive compensation for the emotional distress caused by the loss of a loved one, through what is often referred to as “wrongful death” claims.
