A 19-year-old Spotsylvania man died early Sunday morning after the Jeep he was driving left a county road and struck a tree, according to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office. The crash occurred at approximately 5:45 a.m. on July 5, 2026 — the Fourth of July holiday weekend — and marks a heartbreaking end to what should have been a celebratory weekend for many families across the region.
What Happened
Deputies and Spotsylvania Fire Rescue crews responded to the 6000 block of Ridge Road in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 5, following a report of a single-vehicle crash. They found a heavily damaged 2009 Jeep Cherokee that had left the roadway and struck a tree. The driver, Carter Ajello, 19, of Spotsylvania, was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
