70-Year-Old Spotsylvania Woman Killed in SUV Collision

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A tragic incident unfolded Saturday night when a 70-year-old Spotsylvania woman was killed after being struck by an SUV while crossing the street. This heartbreaking event has left the community mourning and seeking answers regarding the circumstances that led to this devastating loss.

At approximately 9:15 p.m., deputies from the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene of a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian near the intersection of Tidewater Trail and Glendas Way. Upon arrival, law enforcement officers found Wanda Vernell Norbrey critically injured. She was attempting to cross Tidewater Trail when she was hit by a northbound 2018 GMC SUV.

Despite the immediate efforts of deputies who initiated life-saving measures at the scene, Norbrey sadly succumbed to her injuries. Witnesses to the accident described a chaotic scene as emergency responders worked to assist her. Although there was a designated crosswalk in the area, the sheriff’s Accident Reconstruction Team is currently investigating whether the crosswalk signal was illuminated at the time of the incident.

The loss of a beloved member of the community has sparked discussions about pedestrian safety, especially in areas where crosswalks are present. Many residents are concerned about the adequacy of signage and the attention drivers pay to pedestrians, particularly at night.
